Abstract: 

A kinetic spectrophotometric method has been developed for simultaneous quantitative determination of Fe (II) and Fe (III) in several synthetic and water samples and relies on different kinetic rates of the analytes in their reaction with 1-nitroso-2-naphthol in presence of micellar medium in optimum condition. The absorbance was measured and recorded from 400 to 800 nm every 30 s from 30 to 1800 s .An artificial neural network (ANN) coupled with principal component analysis (principal component artificial neural network, PC-ANN) has been described. In this way feed forward neural networks have been trained to quantify considered metal ions in data using principal component analysis of mixture with individual metal ion. In this way an ANN containing three layers of nodes was trained. Sigmoidal and linear transfer functions were used in the hidden and output layers, respectively. PC-ANN were applied to a validation set of overlapping spectra containing kinetic data of binary mixtures with different concentration ratio of Fe+2 and Fe+3. The results show that PC-ANN is quite efficient for prediction of the two analytes.
