THE EFFECT OF GROUP META-COGNITIVE THERAPY ON DECREASE SYMPTOMS OF GENERALIZED ANXIETY AND INCREASE QUALITY OF LIFE IN NURSES

Abstract: 

Background and Objective: Meta-cognitive therapy is an important method whichis ettective in decreaseing anxiety and increase quality of life. This study aimed to investigate the effect of group meta-cognitive therapy on decrease symptoms of generalized anxiety and increase quality of life among nurses.
Method: This study was a quasi-experimental with a pre-test and post-test design. The statistical population included all hospitals’ nurses of Varamin city in 2015 year. Totally 30 nurses were selected through available sampling method and randomly assigned to two groups. The experimental group was trained 10 sessions of 70 minutes by group meta-cognitive therapy method. All groups completed the questionnaire of Cattell’s anxiety and World Health Organization’s quality of life. Data was analyzed by multivariate analysis of covariance method and with using SPSS-19 software.
Results: The findings showed that there is a significant difference between group metacognitive therapy and control group in the generalized anxiety and quality of life. On the other hand group meta-cognitive therapy significantly led to decrease symptoms of generalized anxiety and increase quality of life in nurses (P

Conclusion: The results showed that group meta-cognitive therapy can be effective on decreasing the symptoms of generalized anxiety and can increase quality of life in nurses. Therefore counselor and therapists can use the mentioned methods in decreasing symptoms of anxiety generalized and increase quality of life.
