EFFICACY OF COMPREHENSIVE TRAINING OF HEALTH-BASED PARENTING SKILLS TO MOTHERS ON MODIFICATION OF EATING BEHAVIORS OF OVER WEIGHT CHILDREN

Abstract: 

Introduction: Number of ove-weight and obese Children are increasing rapidly. It is anticipated that the world’s population of obese children will rise to 9.1% till 2020. Childhood obesity is associated with several adverse health conditions such as cardiovascular disease, Type-2 diabetes, lipidemia and hypertension, and morbidity and mortality in adulthood. In this regard this study was conducted to determine the effect of comprehensive training of health-based parenting skills to mothers on modification of eating behavior of over-weigh and obese children.
Methods: In this study, 50 eligible mothers according to exclude-include criteria were selected and randomly assigned into two intervention and control groups. The intervention group was trained for weekly 90-minute sessions in 14 sessions. Before and after intervention, all participant completed demographic and Child Eating Behaviour Questionnaire (CEBQ) questionnaires. Data analysis was done with of SPSS version 21.
Results: Results of multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) revealed that comprehensive training of health-based parenting could significantly modify children eating behavior (Except desire to drink) significantly (P<0.05).
Conclusion: The results showed that the comprehensive training of health-based parenting skills to mothers leaded to modification of eating behavior of over weight children. Also, it seems that the body mass index (BMI) will be reduced by modified Eating behavior.
