Abstract: 

In order to investigate the effect of nitrogen splitting in different growth stages and planting row space on yield and yield components in faba bean, an experiment was carried out as split plot based on randomized complete blocks design with three replications in 2009 at Babol, Mazandaran, Iran. In this experiment, three levels of nitrogen splitting [(T1: Application of full base fertilizer before planting, T2: Application of 75% base fertilizer before planting + 25% onset of grain formation (R5), T3: application of 25% base fertilizer before planting + 75% onset of grain formation (R5)] were chosen as main factors and spaces in row (10, 15 and 20 cm) as sub-factors. The results showed that maximum of pod weight, grain yield and harvest index were observed in T3, and minimum of grain yield and harvest index were obtained in T2 and T3 nitrogen splitting. The highest plant height, pod number per stem, grain number per stem, pod weight, 100 seed weight and grain yield were shown in 20 cm space on row. The minimum plant height, lowest of pod height from ground, sub-stem number, lowest of inter-node diameter, node number in stem, grain yield and harvest index were seen in10 cm space on row. Maximum grain yield was found under interaction T3 nitrogen distribution ×20 cm space on row. Therefore, T3 treatment and 20 cm space on row were selected as best factor.
