Abstract: 

Pyrimido [4,5-b] indole derivatives 4 were synthesized from a one-pot three-component reaction of aryl aldehyde 1, oxindole 2 and urea/thiourea 3 in solvent-free condition using ytterbium (III) triflate as catalyst.
