Abstract:

In a general outlook, this article is about music and its sociological dimensions. The basic premise of this paper is that musical concepts and developments do not occur in a socio-cultural emptiness rather music is somehow a social and cultural construct. Among the various types of music that social groups tend to this article, has specifically assessed the Iranian youths' inclination to pop music and its associated social factors affecting them. To achieve this goal, this study adopted an integrated and a quantitative methodology approach by use of a survey and questionnaire. 200 of new incoming students at Tarbiat Moallem University, academic year 1388, were selected by multistage stratified sampling as the sample size.
The findings show that there is a significant positive relationship between the concept of cultural capital and tendency to pop. While this suggests that there is no meaningful statistical relationship between religiosity and tendency to pop music index. In addition, there exists a direct and meaningful relationship between the socio-economic status (SES) variable and the inclination to pop. Gender doesn't differentiate among students' tendency to pop music as well. These results confirm that the most tendencies toward pop music among the young people are domesticpop, pop music recorded in abroad and foreign pop correspondingly.
