Abstract:

Background: There has been no attempt to design a Quality Assurance Model for Hospital Services in Iran's health sector, and hence not fulfilling expectations of patients, monitoring organizations and the community.
Objective: Designing a Quality Assurance Model for Hospital Services in Iran
Methods: This is a descriptive, comparative research which focuses on quality assurance programs' structure, law forces, managerial and monitoring mechanisms in general and hospital services quality assurance committee's structure, tasks and programs as well as the most important relevant indices. Measures such as national development rate, health benefits and system's ranking, as well as influential social, economical, cultural and political factors were applied to selected countries which were Nigeria, Zambia, India, South Africa, Austria, Germany and Iran. To finalize the proposed model, three-stage Delphi technique was employed to assess the opinions of consulted experts.
Findings: It is a long time that quality assurance committee has been actively playing under the supervision of hospital manager and other members, such as head of physicians, matron, head nurse, pathologist, faculty member and public relations' representative, to achieve nominated tasks and programs in selected countries excluding Iran. In Iran, there has been a desire to get ISO 9000 certificates and activate quality assurance committees recently.
Conclusion: Lack of quality assurance committees has produced many problems in Iran hospital services' delivery. It is therefore suggested to set up quality assurance committees in Iran's hospitals and achieve the desired tasks, programs and goals. This research is a constructive scientific movement and the results of our study can be applied to all hospitals of Iran in order to realize quality assurance policies and strategies.
