Abstract: 

Introduction: Sleep is one of the basic needs of humans. Sleep deprivation causes several adverse effects on the human's body and mind. Several factors causing sleep disturbances in hospital inpatient. Noise and Light are two common disturbing factors for patients in coronary care unit. For improving the quality of sleep using the ear and eye protection device is suggested. The purpose of this study was to study the effects of ear and eye Protect Device Application on Quality of Sleep of patients with acute coronary syndrome.
Method: The research design was two-group controlled clinical trial.60 acute coronary syndrome patients were selected by judgmental sampling then they divided into two groups by randomization. Patients in the intervention group used ear and eye protect device form the second night of hospitalization for three nights. The quality of sleep was assessed by Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index before and after hospitalization. Then data was analyzed by paired t Test, independent t test, and Pearson and spearman correlation coefficient.
Results: the results showed that PSQI in the experimental group was decreased after intervention. (Pretest 5.7±1.6, posttest 8.8±2.8) has decreased significantly (p<0.000). Also' There are significant differences in PSQI after intervention between groups (experimental group 5.7±1.6, control group 8.43±1.97 p<0.05). Discussion: Using the ear and eye protect device is a cost-effective and un complicated method to improve sleep quality in acute coronary syndrome patients in CCU and can serve as an alternative for drug therapy.
