THE CONTEXTS OF LOW CHILDBEARING IN KURDISTAN: THE CASE STUDY OF SAGHEZ CITY

Abstract: 

This article is based on various studies which have proved the fertility transition in Iran including rural and urban areas. Kurdistan province has experienced fertility transition and also its TFR is below replacement. This research tries to study the low childbearing in Saghez city -a small city of Kurdistan province- with a qualitative method. The main aim is to understand the meaning system and intersubjectivity which is supporting such kind of socio-demographic action. It made attempt to know how the people perceive their low childbearing action, how they interpret it and how they understand the conditions and forces that persuaded this action.
The methodological approach for this research is qualitative and grounded theory is adopted for collecting, analyzing and interpreting data. Regarding the conceptualization of interviews contents, eight major categories and a core category has emerged. The core category which describes the whole of findings and the ongoing situation of society is low childbearing as "regulation and improving subject". It means low childbearing in this society is constructed by a kind of regulation and the idea of improving and empowering the children and parents as well.
