STUDY OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN STUDENTS' EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND THEIR SKILLS OF DEALING WITH STRESS

Abstract: 

The present research entitled "Study of the Relationship between Students' Emotional Intelligence and their Skills of Dealing with Stress" was conducted in the Islamic Azad University, Roudehen Branch. The research population consisted of all students enrolled in the first semester of the academic year (1388-89) comprising 23900 students. The research sample (384 subjects) was chosen using the interval random sampling through applying Morgan Table. The research tools were two standardized questionnaires of Seria Shring and Kalat. The obtained coefficients of Cronbach's Alpha for the emotional intelligence and Skills of dealing with stress were 0.89 and 0.92 respectively. In order to analyze the obtained data, descriptive and inferential statistics (i.e., correlation coefficient, analysis of variance, and Freedman test) were applied. The research findings showed that: 1) there is no relationship between self-motivation and skills of dealing with stress; 2) there is a significant relationship between the component of self-motivation in emotional intelligence and skills of dealing with stress; 3) there is a significant relationship between the component of sympathy in emotional intelligence and skills of dealing with stress; 4) there is a significant relationship between the component of social skills in emotional intelligence and skills of dealing with stress, and; 5) there is a significant relationship between the component of social skills in emotional intelligence and skills of dealing with stress. The Freedman test states the ranking of components as follows: 1. self awarene\ss, 2. self adjustment, 3.sympathy, 4. Social skills, and 5. self motivation.
