Abstract: 

The purpose of the present study was to investigation and compare teachers of Basic and Human Sciences regarding their professional skills in order to propose methods for promoting the quality of these skills in junior high schools in the city of Behshahr. The method of the study was field study and the research population consisted of all teaching staff Basic and Human Sciences in the academic year of 1389-90. The sample consisted of 255 students and 150 teachers (male and female) selected by simple random sampling method. The research tools were a researcher made questionnaire (teachers' self-evaluation), and a checklist (teaching observation) which consisted of 25 items designed based on Likert Scale. The obtained data were analyzed using both descriptive and inferencial statistics. The research findings showed that the teachers' degree of awareness is varied about professional skills in the fields of Basic and Human Sciences. The data obtained from the checklist also showed that teachers' degree of awareness is varied regarding professional skills in the two fields of study. In addition, the results obtained from analyzing four components of teachers' professional skills indicated that teachers had more awareness about the component of Methodology, and this degree of awareness was less in the other three components of Educational Designing, Evaluation, and Educational Technology respectively.
