Abstract: 

The Processes involved on desertification are a combination of different elements, natural and human based. On the basis of the region under study, one may find some elements more important than the others. Nevertheless, soil and water salinization are outstanding elements in many cases. Salinization risk assessment of Mond basin, located in Fars province of Iran, was the aim of this study. Having available information in hand, required information was collected in different situations. Samples were taken from 75cm depth. Maximum EC and exchangeable sodium percentage were measured to put the soils into four qualitative classes, negligible (N), medium (M), severe (S) and very severe (V). Finally a 1:250000 desertification maps on the basis of salinization expansion were provided. Results show that 4% of the total area is classified as V, 2.7% as S, 1.8% as M and 89% as N. Water of Mond River as the main mean for salinization transport was traced under-investigation. The results show that water quality is falling down from C2S1 to C4S4 after it passes the salty plugs.
