Abstract: 
Karyotypic studies were performed on 16 hull-less barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) genotypes, using squash technique and 2% (w/v) aceto-carmin staining method. Chromosomal parameters examined were long arm (1), short arm (S), total length of chromosome (TL), arm ratio (AR), r-value (SIL), chromosome volume, form percentage of chromosome (F%) and the number of satellites. The resultant data were tested for normality and then analyzed according to two factorial experiments on the basis of completely randomized design (CRD) with five replications of cells. The first factor was considered as genotype with 16 levels and the second as chromosome with 7 levels. ANOVA indicated significant differences among genotypes and among chromosomes for all the above-mentioned parameters. All genotypes examined were diploid. The highest value of chromatin length was detected in G11 (58.1 mm) while G8 demonstrated the lowest (35.8 mm).The type of chromosomes was determined as M, m or sm in all genotypes, using Levan's chromosome nomenclature. Karyotypes were classified in 4 classes of 1A, 1B, 2B and 1C of Stebbin's classification, comprising 6, 5, 2 and 3 genotypes, respectively. In addition to this classification, to test the karyotypic symmetry in more details, other parameters of: total form percentage of karyotype (TF%), symmetry index (S%), dispersion index (DI), coefficient of variation (CV%) and difference in ranges of relative length of chromosome (DRL) were also determined. Considering all the above-mentioned karyotypic symmetrical parameters, among all the 16 hull-less barley genotypes tested, G11 and G12 appeared to have the most symmetrical and the most asymmetrical karyotypes, respectively.
