Abstract: 

Nickel as a heavy metal is toxic, and has a damaging effect on the physiology, biochemistry, cells, and genetics of different plants. In this study, the toxic effect of various Nicl2 treatments (with different concentrations of 0, 100, 300, and 500 M) on the physiological activities (including the growth parameters in the leaves and the root as well as the chlorophyll content) of the two types of Colza (Brassica Napus L.: Hyola-401 and PF-00), was investigated.
The results showed that as the Ni concentration in the hydroponic system increased, the surface of the leaves, the weight of the root and the leaves, the weight of the dry root and the leaves, the length of the root and the chlorophyll content all decreased, and the decrease in these parameters was more in PF than in Hyola. The statistical analyses of the parameters studied for both types also revealed a meaningful difference at P<0.01 and P<0.05. One of the effective biochemical mechanisms on growth analyses is the different sensitivity (reaction) of the two types of plants to the toxic heavy metal (Ni) stress treatments. It seems that the heavy metal stress could actually prevent the production of chlorophyll biosynthesis, and also cause the biological alteration in the two types of plants.
