Abstract: 

The contamination of water with toxic metals is a worldwide problem. In this study, the removal of heavy metals (cd2+, Pb2+, Cr6+) from aqueous solution was studied using activated carbon obtained from rice hull, wheat husk, and straw. Batch and column experiments were performed. Batch studies conformed to Freundlich and Langmuir absorption isotherms. The values of constants for the isotherms were found.
Column study conformed to the optimum absorption in various pH's, temperatures, and concentrations.
Experiments showed that cd2+, Pb2+, Cr6+ absorption increased with increasing the pH and decreased with increasing the temperature and the concentration of the solutions.
