Abstract: 

Priming is a technique for seed improvement which may increase percentage and rate of germination under environmentally stress conditions including salinity and drought conditions. In order to evaluate the effect of seed priming on seed germination traits of Cucurbita pepo L. plant under drought stress conditions this research was conducted at Mashhad Azad University. Treatments were included 4 levels of priming (no priming, hydropriming, osmopriming with potassium nitrate, concentration of 1% and potassium chloride, concentration of 2%); and five levels of drought stress (-8, -6, -4, -2, 0 bar) with poly ethylene glycol (PEG6000). The results of the experiment revealed that germination percentage, germination rate, uniformity of germination and also seedling dry and wet weight and the length of radicle and plumule would decrease by increasing drought stress. The interaction was significant in all levels, and based on the results, percentage, uniformity and rate of germination in low levels of drought (-2 bar) and non-drought, seed priming in the form of potassium nitrate improved germination adjectives, and in high levels of drought (-4 bar), seed priming in the form of potassium nitrate and potassium chloride caused decrement in germination parameters. In general it can be concluded that priming improves germination parameters in drought stress conditions at germination stage.
