Abstract:

Background and Objectives: Nowadays, diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases with an increasing incidence and prevalence in Iran and worldwide. Attitudinal and psychological factors have major roles in self-care and controlling diabetes.
The aim of this study was to assess the role of health locus of control on self-care behaviors in patients with type II diabetes.
Materials and Methods: In this research, 60 individuals from Tabriz diabetes center of Sina hospital were selected through randomized sampling. Data were collected through two questionnaires including multidimensional health locus of control and self-care behaviors.
Results: There was a significant positive relation between the self-care behaviors and internal health locus of control and a significant negative relation between the self-care behaviors and chance. The results also revealed that internal control more predicted the self-care behavior. In addition, there was no significant difference between male and female with regard to the self-care behaviors and health locus of control.
Conclusion: According to the findings of this study, the self-care behaviors showed a significant relation with health locus of control. In other words, tendency to the internal health locus of control causes an increase in the self-care behaviors.
