Abstract:
The present study aims at investigating and identifying the competencies needed for educational managers. A population of 3594 principals were considered for this study including all those who worked in pre-elementary, elementary, junior-high, and high schools in the city of Tehran in the academic of 2007/08. The research sample consisted of 346 principals selected through applying Morgan random sampling index. The tool of data collection was a questionnaire validated by 20 experts. It also enjoyed a reliability of 0.82 calculated through applying Kronbach’s Alpha method. The results of data analysis showed that the most significant required competencies for educational managers are: management, leadership, social, technological, individual, economical (occupational and professional), spiritual, moral, religious, intelligence, cognitive, research, environmental, global, international, political, and cultural competencies. Therefore, it was recommended to plan the educational system in such a way that educational managers meet the abovementioned competencies in training courses.
