Abstract:

Background: This study was conducted to assess the effect of walking of pregnant women in the active phase of labor.
Materials and Methods: A randomized controlled clinical trial with 240 patients was performed. We divided patients in two random groups, 120 patients in "walking group". (Group A) and 120 patients in "usual care group" (group B).
Results & Conclusion: The result showed that there was no significant difference between variables such as age, gravidity, gestational age, primary dilatation of cervix in two groups. The use of analgesic was 78.3% (94 patients) in group Band 48.3% (58 patients) in group A (P<=0.001). The average time of labor in 84 patients of group B who has normal vaginal delivery were 278.2±1 minutes but for too patients of group A with normal vaginal delivery were 187.5±16 minutes. There was significant difference between two groups. The need for labor augmentation with oxytocin was 23.3% (28 patients) in group Band 6.7% (8 patients) in group A (p=0.01). The percentages of women requiring delivery by cesarean section was 30% (36 patients) in group Band 16.7% (20 patients) in group A (p=0.08).
