Abstract:
The history of medicine in Iran dates back to ancient times. Signs of this medicine existed in different forms and levels even before the establishment of Jundi Shapoor University and Hospital.
Achaemenians organized the science of medicine and Parthians combined Iranian medicine with Greek and Zoroastrian medicine. Islamic medicine started in the second Hegira century with Firdows al-Hikma by Ali bin Rabban al-Tabari and it was climaxed by Avicenna in the fourth century.
Persian poets also were more or less familiar with the rudiments and principles of this science. This familiarity can be seen in the poems by Ferdowsi, Anvari, Khaqani, Nezami, Sa’di, and Mowlavi. The present article studies Anvari’s poetry from this perspective.
