Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to see the investigate the effects of Urografin and Iohexol on clinical parameters (Heart rate, respiratory and temperature), heamatology (complete blood count), serum biochemical (BUN, Scr, total protein, uric acid, sodium, and potassium), renal function and urinalysis (glucose, bilirubin, urobilinogen, blood, keton bodies, pH, specific gravity and urine precipitation). To this end, twelve clinically healthy cats, male and adult domestic short hair (DSH) weighing mean 2.3 ± 0.03 kg were selected and categorized randomly into two groups (6 cats in each group). Then Urografin was administrated to cats of groups 1 with dosage of 200 mg/kg b.w. of 76% solution intravenously and Iohexol with dosage of 400 mg/kg b.w. IV to cats of groups 2. The present parameters were determined during taking radigraphs at times zero, 5, 20, 40 minutes after administration of contrast media and electrocardiogram record before and at times 2 and 24 hour following injection. As a general, Iohexol was caused significant changes in some factors (duration P wave, specific gravity, uric acid and potassium) and Urografin in duration of QRS complex and PH. Changes on Amplitude of QRS complex and T wave was significant between two drugs (P<0.05). Radiographic findings showed that both Urografin and Iohexol had good radioopacity. This study suggested that neither drugs had side effects on urinary system, clinical parameters, urinalysis and renal function tests (BUN and Scr) in cats and can be recommended for urography in this animal.
