Abstract: 

Pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo subsp. Pepo convar pepo var styriaca) is one of valuable medicinal. Plants in the pharmaceutical industries of developed countries. The active substances of this plant used to cure prostate problems (hypertrophy of prostate). The nitrogen has effect on the productivity (growth, seed yield and active substances) of this plant and chlorophyll content (a, b and total) of leaves. In this study, we have investigated of different levels of N - fertilizer 0, 150, 225, and 300 kgha) on the basis of randomized complete block design with three replication in every treatments, on sandy loam soil. According the results, N - fertilizer has significant effect on fruit yield, seed yield, active substance (fatty oil and sitostrol) and chlorophyll of pumpkin. According to data, the highest amount of chlorophyll (a, b and total) produced in the leaves applied 300 kg/ha-1 N - fertilizer. In this treatment the growth and internod length increased too. In 0 and 75 kaN/ha-1 treatments, female flowers appeared sooner, than the other treatments. The highest, fruit yield. seed yield, number of seeds per each fruits, 1000 seeds weight and oil content produced in the plots that received 75 kg/ha-1 N - fertilizer. The plants received 150 kg/ha-1 N - fertilizer accumulated the highest amount of b - sitostrol.
