Abstract:

Background: Human papilloma virus (HPV) is associated with a variety of benign and malignant lesions. The aim of this study was to investigate positive rate of HPV infection in bladder transitional cell carcinoma (TCC).
Methods: A descriptive study on 96 cases of bladder TCCs (28 Grade I, 51 grade II, 17 grade III) was done. All specimens were stained by immuno-histochemistry method.
Findings: Of 96TCCs, 17 (17.8%) were HPV positive and most of them (51.3%) had grade n.
Conclusion: Although the frequency of HPV in our specimens of TCC was low, it may play a role in TCC development and larger studies are recommended.
